This book presents an analytical framework of the design of organizations and particularly of types of organizations which apply lateral decision processes or matrix forms. The framework created in this book attempts to identify the types of matrix designs and the conditions under which they are appropriate. In addition to the presentation and justification of the framework, several cases illustrating applications are described and analyzed. The text has attempted to bring theory to bear on design issues, yet be general enough so that framework can be applied to different types of organizations.
